Leimert Park Idol Competition June 2006

Young Educated Singers, INC., ("Y.E.S., INC." or "YES"), is a California not-for-profit corporation founded by legendary jazz and blues singer, Ms. Barbara Morrison, in 1998. Under her direction and guidance, the organization dedicates itself to the preservation and proliferation of jazz and the blues: two uniquely American musical genres, through the inspiration and education of tomorrow's artist today.

YES is committed to providing financial aid and guidance to as many students of jazz and the blues as possible, supporting attendance at accredited schools of music, or private tutelage under working, professional teachers. But yes can only do this with your generous support.

The art of jazz and blues singing has been considerably overlooked by the youth in America and in other countries as well. Indeed, it is rare to find a person between the ages of 12 and 17 interested in taking up a career as a singer of these musical genres.

YES is on a mission to expose and "turn on" as many children in this age group as possible to jazz and the blues with a view toward nurturing their creativity and imaginations, and inspiring them to keep jazz and the blues alive by choosing to embark on careers as jazz and/or blues singers.

YES awarded two scholarships in the year 2000; to 12-year-old, Jared Cox, and 16-year-old, Marissa Rawlins; two every gifted young artist. But these awards only reflect a small beginning.

YES is determined to produce future fundraisers that will pay tribute to some of the most legendary jazz and blues greats the world has ever known in the hope of raising public awareness of our scholarship awards both in number and in dollar amounts.

YES also raises much needed scholarship funds by soliciting your tax-deductible contributions and selling "blues rags" and "jazz rags" 100% cotton handkerchief silk-screened with the images various blues and jazz legends. These Yes "glad rags" make wonderful gifts fro the jazz and blues fan and aficionado, as well as wonderful favors or "give-aways" for jazz and blues clubs to consider giving.

YES needs your support your generous contributions are solely needed to keep the legacy of jazz and blues alive and keep vital in our culture today. If you would like to give us your tax-deductible contribution, and be included on our mailing and invitation list, please take the time to fill out contributor's leaf and included in this flyer and send it to us as soon as possible. We need and are very grateful for your support of our mission without you, we could never achieve our goals. Please help us keep jazz and the blues alive, won't you?

YES and its young scholarship recipients appreciate your support! With each of your tax deductible dollars, another page in history of jazz and the blues can be written and recorded in history for all of our future listening generations to share and enjoy. Please, say YES!
